The atmosphere at Good Times is where the magic truly happens. As many patrons rave, it’s not just the great deals on beer and liquor or the delicious food that keeps them coming back; it’s the pulse of live music that fills the air. From local bands to legendary acts like the Sugar Hill Gang, the venue offers an electrifying soundtrack to your evening. Chad Brown highlights this best: “Best place in Ankeny for live music... The acoustics are first rate.” Whether you’re there for a band night or karaoke, the vibe is fun, unpretentious, and full of energy, making it easy to lose track of time in good company.
Good Times doesn’t just rely on its entertainment and menu — it’s the people who give it soul. Longtime staff like Cindy, lauded by patrons for over 15 years, create a familiar and welcoming environment that makes every visit feel personal. Though some customers have noticed occasional busy nights behind the bar, the dedication of the team, especially those working tirelessly to keep service smooth, shines through.
In sum, Good Times is more than a dive bar; it’s a lively gathering spot where good food, great deals, and unforgettable music come together. Whether you're a longtime local or just passing through Ankeny, stopping by promises not only tasty eats and drinks but also moments that truly feel like the good life.
Cindy is a legend. She's worked there for 15+ years. One of my favorite deliveries stops because of her.
Good small town bar that has great deals on beer liquor and food Fridays its either band or karaoke but if your here near Ankeny stop by check it out... Omw there mostly every weekend
Best place in Ankeny for live music. I even had the opportunity to see the Sugar Hill Gang (the first commercially successful hip hop band) here for free. They have had some epic concerts at Good Times, and the acoustics are first rate. If you have not been here and enjoy live music, I'm not sure what you're waiting for because it's a fun place. Good Times gets 5 stars for being the best place in town for live music and bonus points for two darts games. This place is fun. They don't call it Good Times for nothing.
Although i have not been there in over 10 years. I used to be a regular in my 20's ..the place still looks the same , except now it looks and smells clean. I came out for a friends show. Not 5 stars due to the bartenders being more focused on taking shots then serving patrons. Girl with glasses was the only sober one and working her butt off behind the bar so i waited for her to cash me out, because the other one could barely keep her eyes open
It's a dive bar. They have great drink prices and usually have a band on the weekend
Great atmosphere and people were very friendly. We had a party of 6 and showed up for food, but they no longer serve food. They do accept door dash type of deliveries, so we had some food delivered. We played pool on one of their 2 tables. We were there at 5:30 on a Saturday evening and it wasn't busy. By 9pm, the place had a live band, and it was buzzing with activity. You were still able to get drinks in a short amount of time with the 2 bartenders. Seating was no longer available. If you are looking for a seat, I suggest showing up early before 9pm. We had a lot of fun. Highly recommend for an evening out with friends.
